The Bijou Hideaway

Things to do, places to see in Skye and Wester Ross

The Bijou Hideaway is ideally situated to explore Skye and Wester Ross where you will be spoilt for choice with all the activities on offer.  From the apartment you can watch the wild rabbits sunning themselves next door and an abundance of marine life just a stone's throw away.  Whales, porpoises, seals, otters and many more are spotted around local waters every year. Situated amongst common grazing we often have visits in the garden from lambs in the Spring. Ashaig beach is 10 mins walk. When the tide is out there is an expanse of golden sand, or walk into Broadford along the coastal walk wildlife spotting on your way.

Red Skye restaurant is a 10 min walk from the apartment, serving local seafood and locally produced beers.

The Hebridean Hotel, on the outskirts of Broadford is also a excellent place to eat, their home smoked fresh locally caught fish is part of an extensive menu and they also serve locally produced beers.

Due to the pandemic, a lot of restaurants and cafe's have restricted seating and therefore it is advisable to check if you need to book in advance before going. Please be respectful, these places have had a tough time over the last year and some are struggling to operate at all. Please be patient.

Broadford, Skye's second largest town, is only 3 miles away,  it has pubs, hotels, restaurants, chemist, 24hr petrol, atm machine, supermarket, off-licence,  as well as some Art and Craft shops/galleries.

Portree, Skye's capital, has the Aros complex which includes a cinema/theatre, cafe, deli and often has performances from local musicians. There are also many hotels, bars, restaurants, banks, shops, petrol stations, arts/crafts, galleries and 2 supermarkets. Tippecanoe and Skye Batiks are two of our favourite shops and are well worth a visit.

Skye is famous for it's hill walking and climbing with around 60 Munros in the Skye and Wester Ross areas.  There are local guides if you need them.  There are many museums and galleries around the area which are open throughout the season and often craft fayres can be found in village halls.

Kyle of Lochalsh is 10 minutes drive from the studio, over the bridge on the mainland, there you will find a well stocked Chemist, a few other small shops, a couple of coffee shops, a chip shop, a Chinese Take away, a Coop supermarket, bank with ATM, laundrette and petrol station.
